Why a mentorship?
We all face challenges in our work and home environments. It can often be hard to talk to those around us because they can be so close to the issue itself. Being involved in a mentoring program can help young LGBT+ professionals navigate some of the challenges they may face. From career advice, technical learning, motivation, emotional support or even just inspiration, a mentor can often be a sounding board to untangle problems that gives a person greater clarity in their thinking.
But let’s not forget the role of reverse mentoring. It doesn’t matter our age; we are always learning. Through conversations and meeting people that challenge our way of thinking, a mentoring program can reward even the most senior of us by getting perspective from the next generation. A generation that will help pave the way for a better future.

The science of matching
Mentorship is about learning and understanding. Our participants understand the reciprocal benefits for both mentor and mentee participation.Purpose built for professional LGBT+ people, we focus on understanding the reason why people get involved in mentoring programs. These include:
- Building Relationships and Emotional Support
- Personal Brand and Identity Development
- Professional Networks and Connections
- Upskilling and technical development
- Generational Learning and Understanding
- Decision Making, Problem Solving, Guidance and Advice
The matching process goes through a series of questions to help profile participants based on mentorship needs and expectations, personality traits, demographic variables, values and interests and career compatibility. While 2021 will be a pilot with limited numbers, over time, we tend to introduce commitment charters, conversation guides, evaluation forms and a digital portal for greater engagement. Ultimately, what underpins the program’s success is making sure all participants get what they want out of it.

Keti Malkoski, Organisational PsychologistMaster’s of Organisational Psychology
Bachelor and Honours in Psychology
Keti Malkoski is a workplace specialist with over 15 years industry experience in workforce and space strategy and change enablement. With a Master’s of Organisational Psychology from Monash University, Keti has worked for some of the largest organisations globally and in Australia, linking people and culture considerations to improved digital and physical space experiences and behaviours.
Keti is a specialist in capability assessment and development with a focus on human behavioural assessment and data. She is currently consulting to Fortescue Mining and CSL with a history in consulting with Australia Post, CBA, Ausgrid, AMEX and government bodies.
Join our Mentor program
It is worth noting that to be a mentor, you don’t need to identify as LGBT+, we have plenty of our friends and allies who have wanted to mentor because they feel like they can learn from a different generation, and from people who face different challenges than they would. This is something we actively encourage: reciprocal learning. If you aren’t sure if the program is right for you, apply first, and see if you think it could be of value to you.
